Correction in the jacket credits; album was recorded and mixed by Keny Ruyter and mastered by Billy Wolf. Also, due to a layout misstep, the words to "Elisha and Elijah's Song," and "Adam's Song" are difficult to read in the jacket so I have listed the lyrics here:
ELISHA AND ELIJAH'S SONG
Kings II, 2
The prophet Elijah, in the tradition, doesn't ever
die, but instead is summoned to heaven one day in a
fiery chariot. On this day, his disciple Elisha
accompanies him. Their love is apparent by their
deeply sad parting and by Elisha's final urgent
request to be left with "a double portion" of Elijah's
soul. He is granted this on the condition that he
actually sees Elijah ascending.
ELISHA'S SONG
Let's make a deal, I said, I have been there all the
times that you have needed me
Your body will be dead, but of your spirit I must have
a double copy.
You have been like a father, I don't want to see you
go,
And if only I knew all the things that you know
But I know that you must go home
So this thing you ask of me, it remains to be seen
what can be done for you
But if you see me as I leave, I can guarantee that you
will have the thing you choose.
I know you'll carry on, what I've been sent to do,
And I'll always be there to help you get through
But now I must be going home
From a chariot of fire, I'll wave to you
On my journey into history alone
I'll be back someday, but today I am gone
I will miss you
I have known you to perform, miracles I would have
sworn were not possible.
Giving everything you had to show the world that we
all for one and one for all
Running away, feeling angry and depressed,
But soon you found that you were not the only one left
We knew that we could go home
Stay with me….
Can't you see…
I'm not ready…
Stay with me…
And now I've carried on the seeds my teacher has sown
the very best I could.
And his that's been mine, will carry into time and
show the world things good.
But in my heart I know he'll always have a special
place,
And when I dream I'll see the things I need in his
face
I wish that I could go home
ADAM'S SONG
Genesis 3
Adam and Eve are banished from the Garden of Eden
after eating from the tree of knowledge of good and
evil. In the moment after their exile, they become
aware that they will have to exist in a world where
none of the profound beauty they had previously known
will ever exist or be accessible again. They are thankful
for their lives and their plenty, but have had a taste
of what could be, which will color their lives
forever.
ADAM'S SONG
The world is alive with the sound of my eyes
But I still know what's been here before
Take my hand, you are woman I am man
But I still know what's been here before
Ooh*Before
We'll toil for our bread, the land will keep us well fed,
But I still know what's been here before
Our skin won't be bare, we'll have clothing to wear
But I still know what's been here before
Ooh*.Before
Close my heart to this brand new start
I still know what's been here before
Take me back to the place that I know
I still know I've been here before
Still know I've been here before
The children will play with the passing of each day
But I still know what's been here before
Our love was pure, now it seems so unsure
I still know what's been here before
Our world wouldn't last, paradise was that fast
I still know what's been here before
I should have cried when we learned to tell lies,
I still know what's been here before
Ooh*. Before
